[+] Two dragonflies appear to be flying around the edges of this tsuba. On the front, one dragonfly comes over the top, when the tail of the second is visible at the bottom. On the reverse, the rest of both dragonflies can be seen. There is a wood grain pattering to the body of the tsuba.

Tsuba with the Four Gentlemen: Orchid, Bamboo, Plum, and Chrysanthemum Funada Ikkin II (Japanese, ca. 1840-1885) (Artist) The four flowers depicted on this tsuba are known as the Four Gentlemen. The theme came to Japan from China. Each flower represents a different season. On the front, bamboo represents summer and plum represents winter. On the reverse, chrysanthemums and orchids represent autumn and spring respectively. This tsuba is signed Funada Ikkin, but may be the work of a later follower.
