Moonlight in the Garden at Versailles

by Edward Steichen

oil on canvas’1902

Edward Steichen, the great photographer, was a magnificent Tonalist painter.  “Moonlight in the Garden at Versailles,” is a good example of his somber but romantic poetry in paint.
