Art is a journey into the most unknown thing of all - oneself. Nobody knows his own frontiers… I don’t think I’d ever want to take a road if I knew where it led.

Louis Kahan

Kuranosuke Oishi, the leader of the 47 Ronin standing, holding in his raised right hand a drum with the words: “Mei Gi Karu Yoru” (killing of loyalty) and a flail in his left. The collar of his jacket Jimbarori displays its name with honors and his helmet is on a cape with a wave pattern on the back. About one of his two swords, he has hung a Gohei. Ivory with very finely carved and engraved, dark-accented details. Signed: Shigemitsu. See MCI. S. 733rd 19. Century H 5.8 cm.
